Owmi Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what personal data Owmi ("the App," "we," "us") collects, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the rights you have over it. It applies to registered account holders and to guest participants who use the App without creating an account. Owmi is a bookkeeping and expense-splitting tool; the way it works shapes the data it handles, so this policy describes our actual practices rather than generic boilerplate.

1. A Quick Summary

We collect the minimum needed to run a shared-expense tracker: your account email and display name, the expense and group data you enter, and standard analytics/crash/advertising data. We do not sell your personal data. We are not a payment processor — we never see or move real money. You can delete your account at any time, and when you do, your personal identity is permanently removed and your role in shared records is anonymized (the "Ghost Member" process in Section 9).

2. Data We Collect

2.1 Information you provide directly

2.2 Information collected automatically

2.3 Guest mode is different

If you use Owmi as a guest without creating an account, the trips, expenses, and member names you enter are stored locally on your device and are not sent to our servers. This data lives only on your device until you choose to create an account, at which point it is migrated to your account and then cleared from local storage. Guest data is not recoverable by us and cannot be synced across devices.

3. How Your Email Address Is Stored

To let group members find each other by email without exposing everyone's email address to bulk harvesting, we split your profile into two parts:

Because the hash is one-way, another user cannot read your real email from your public profile.

4. How We Use Your Data

5. Legal Bases for Processing (EU/EEA and UK users)

Where the GDPR applies, we process your data under the following legal bases:

6. Advertising and Tracking

The free version of Owmi shows ads served by Google AdMob. On first launch (or as required by Apple), you will see Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt. If you decline, ads are served in a non-personalized (contextual) manner and the App does not use your IDFA to track you across apps and websites. You can change this choice at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Tracking. Purchasing "Remove Ads Forever" removes advertising, and the associated ad data collection, from your experience of the App.

7. Who We Share Data With

7.1 Your group members

Owmi is collaborative by nature. Expenses, amounts, descriptions, settlements, and your display name are visible to the other members of any group you participate in. Only share groups with people you trust with that information.

7.2 Service providers

We rely on the following processors to operate the App. We do not sell your data to any of them or to anyone else.

ProviderPurpose
Google (Firebase Authentication)Account sign-in and password handling
Google (Cloud Firestore)Storage of account and expense data
Google (Firebase Storage)Storage of profile photos
Google (Firebase Analytics)Usage analytics
Google (Crashlytics)Crash and stability reporting
Google (AdMob)Advertising in the free version
Apple Inc.Sign in with Apple, App Store, and in-app purchases (StoreKit)

These providers process data under their own privacy policies and applicable data-processing terms. Google's practices are described at policies.google.com/privacy and Apple's at apple.com/legal/privacy.

7.3 In-app purchases

The optional "Remove Ads Forever" purchase is processed entirely by Apple through the App Store and StoreKit. Owmi never receives, stores, or has access to your payment card or billing information.

7.4 Legal disclosures

We may disclose data if required by law, court order, or valid legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of our users or the public.

8. Data Retention

We keep your personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the App. When you delete your account, your personal identity is removed as described in Section 9. Shared expense records remain, in anonymized form, for the accuracy of other members' balances. We may retain limited information longer where required to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements. Analytics, crash, and advertising data are retained according to the retention settings of the respective Google service.

9. Deleting Your Account & the Ghost Member Process

You can delete your account at any time from within the App, or by contacting support@owmi.online. Deletion is unconditional — we place no restrictions on when or why you may delete.

When you delete your account, we:

Ghost Member anonymization. An expense-splitting record only balances if everyone who was part of it stays in it. So instead of erasing the expenses you were involved in — which would silently corrupt your group members' balances — we replace your identity in those shared records with an anonymous "ghost member." Your name and account link are removed; what remains is a nameless placeholder that keeps the math correct for the people you split costs with. After deletion, you can no longer be identified from these records.

10. Your Privacy Rights

10.1 Everyone

Regardless of where you live, you can access, correct, or delete your account data using the in-app tools or by emailing us. You can also export your account and trip data from within the App.

10.2 EU/EEA and UK (GDPR)

You have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or object to processing of your data; the right to data portability; and the right to withdraw consent at any time. You may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

10.3 Brazil (LGPD)

You have the right to confirm the existence of processing; to access, correct, anonymize, or delete your data; to data portability; to information about with whom your data is shared; and to withdraw consent. You may also petition the national data protection authority (ANPD).

10.4 United States (California, Virginia, Colorado, and other state laws)

Depending on your state, you may have the right to know what personal information we collect, to access and delete it, to correct inaccuracies, to data portability, and to opt out of targeted advertising and any "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. We do not sell your personal information. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.

To exercise any of these rights, email support@owmi.online. Requests are free of charge and we will respond as soon as possible and, in any event, within the time required by applicable law (generally within one month). We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.

11. Children

Owmi is not directed to children. You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction) to use the App. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under this age. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.

12. International Data Transfers

Owmi's infrastructure is provided by Google and Apple, which operate globally. Your data may be processed on servers located outside your country of residence, including in the United States. Where required, these transfers rely on appropriate safeguards such as the transfer mechanisms and standard contractual clauses used by our service providers.

13. Security

Data transmitted between the App and our providers is encrypted in transit. Access to your account data is controlled by authentication and by server-side security rules that restrict each record to its authorized users (for example, private profile details are readable only by you, and group data only by that group's members). No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

14. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by an updated "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, additional in-app or email notice. Your continued use of the App after an update takes effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.

15. Contact

Questions, requests, or complaints about this Privacy Policy or your data: support@owmi.online. We aim to respond within 7 days, and always within the time required by applicable law.
